MSP SALES & GROWTHILLUSTRATIVE
SCOUTz product evidence supporting The Scan They Asked For.
How should an MSP offer a free security scan to local businesses?

Offer it as an opt-in courtesy that works with the company's existing IT provider, send it only after the recipient replies, and make the booking link optional rather than the price of admission.

What the message actually says

We are a technology partner that specializes in business resilience and strategic IT. As a courtesy to local businesses, we are offering an outside scan and scorecard. You are welcome to use it with your current IT provider, or use the steps in it yourself to make sure the company is covered. If you would like one, reply and we will send it out, along with a booking link if you decide you want to walk through it. If not, thank you for your time, and the offer stands if anything changes.

That is the whole thing. No attachment. No report. No finding.

Why each line is doing work

It names a specialty before it names a service. Business resilience and strategic IT is a category the reader can place. Managed services is not.

It says courtesy, and then behaves like one.

It tells the owner to use it with the current provider. That is the most important line in the message. It removes the switch requirement, which is the thing the reader was bracing for, and it is the line most MSPs cut because it feels like giving away the deal.

Nothing runs until someone replies. The reply is the consent.

The booking link is optional and named as optional. The offer does not convert into a meeting by default.

The exit is graceful and the door stays open. Most of the list will not answer. They will remember who asked politely.

The offer is the campaign. The scan is fulfillment.

Researching one company before a meeting you already have is preparation. Field Note 83 covers how to introduce that work honestly: disclose the review, name the source and the time, show the receipt. That still holds.

Sending four hundred unrequested reports is not preparation. It is a mailing. The difference is whether a person on the other end invited the contact.

An MSP that asks before it scans is demonstrating the thing it is selling. The product refuses to score an unknown as clean. The outreach refuses to assume interest. Those are the same discipline applied at two different distances.

What it costs

The list gets smaller. The motion gets slower. The replies come from people who raised a hand, which changes what the first meeting is for. I am not going to put a number on it, and any vendor who does is selling something other than evidence.

A scan nobody asked for shows an owner what you will do without being invited. A scan someone asked for shows them how you work. Same collectors, same report, different answer to the only question the owner is actually asking.

THE SCOUTz METHOD · State the condition. Show the evidence. Name the boundary. Identify the owner. Offer the next choice.
