FAQ

Direct answers, with the boundary left intact.

If a source, permission, or license limits an answer, we say so before it turns into a sales claim or a client conclusion.

What is SCOUTz?

SCOUTz is prospect intelligence for MSPs. It gives you dated evidence about a prospect's environment before the first meeting, turns it into a reason to talk and a report the owner can read, and keeps it attached through the work so a rescan can show what changed. The domain review and the read-only Microsoft 365 review are how that evidence gets collected.

Who is SCOUTz built for?

MSP owners, sales leaders, vCIOs, and the technicians who inherit what sales promised. It covers the first prospect conversation through delivery and the next rescan.

Does SCOUTz install an agent?

No. The current product uses a domain-only outside-in assessment and a customer-approved Microsoft 365 OAuth assessment. It does not install endpoint software, hardware appliances, or network probes.

Is the Microsoft 365 review read-only?

Yes. It uses customer-approved, read-only access for supported configuration and metadata. SCOUTz does not make tenant changes or read message bodies, documents, files, chats, or prompts.

What can the domain review see?

Public DNS, email-authentication records, HTTPS and certificates, browser-security headers, exposed services, and related public signals. It can't see internal identity, recovery, endpoints, or how the business actually operates. Those stay unknown until a deeper source is authorized.

Does an installed application mean it is being used?

No. Installation, consent, license assignment, and activity are different states. SCOUTz keeps them separate and labels activity or user evidence only when the connected source exposes it.

Does SCOUTz make security changes automatically?

No. SCOUTz separates diagnosis from remediation. The MSP reviews the evidence, validates the environment, agrees on the next step, performs the work, and rescans observable controls to verify change.

Can SCOUTz prove backup health?

Not from product presence alone. Backup health requires evidence such as protected scope, job results, isolation, restore testing, and recovery objectives. SCOUTz distinguishes presence from attested or directly verified recovery readiness.

How does SCOUTz approach AI and Copilot governance?

When supported source coverage is available, SCOUTz can surface relevant application, publisher, permission, owner, assignment, and activity context. It does not inspect prompts, employee messages, documents, or private files.

Can MSPs use their own branding?

Yes. Client-facing reports are designed for the MSP’s name, logo, color, contact details, and client-delivery motion. Operator-only evidence remains separated from client-safe output.

How do I join the Open Beta?

Use the Open Beta application with your MSP or company email and place a card on file through Stripe. A person reviews every complete application. If approved, the team provisions the workspace and sends a passwordless sign-in link to the application email. Open Beta includes 30 days at $0 beginning at provisioning; list pricing is $279 per month, with exact conversion terms sent three days before any paid conversion.

What does passive-first discovery mean?

It means SCOUTz begins with bounded public and approved company evidence before a customer relationship exists, states what that evidence cannot establish, and requests customer authorization only when a deeper cloud source is needed.

Why does a Microsoft 365 review need customer authorization?

The review uses supported tenant configuration and metadata that public sources cannot provide. SCOUTz explains the purpose and read-only boundary, the customer authorizes access, and permission, license, provider, and readability limits remain visible.

Does SCOUTz read email, files, chats, documents, or AI prompts?

No. The current Microsoft 365 review is designed around supported configuration, metadata, relationships, permissions, counts, and states. It does not read message bodies, files, chats, documents, or prompts.

Does public information mean SCOUTz can collect anything it finds?

No. Public availability is one aspect of the source, not permission for unlimited collection, retention, or secondary use. SCOUTz is designed around a defined purpose, proportionate evidence, source transparency, and explicit access boundaries.

Where do existing users sign in?

At the Portal link in the menu, which opens portal.scoutzsecurity.io. Sign-in is passwordless. If you need access on a second device, contact us and we'll reissue it.

Why is MSP sales difficult?

An MSP often has to establish trust, understand an unfamiliar environment, earn permission for deeper assessment, translate technical evidence, and define useful work before a buyer can compare more than price. SCOUTz prepares that process; it does not remove the human decision.

How should an MSP prepare for the first sales meeting?

Bring a sourced company brief, legitimate outside-in evidence, explicit unknowns, and questions created by the evidence. Whatever earned the meeting, do not ask the meeting to begin at zero.

Does SCOUTz guarantee more sales or a shorter sales cycle?

No. SCOUTz cannot control the prospect, budget, timing, competition, or close. It helps the MSP prepare with defensible evidence, ask better questions, keep the next step clear, and preserve the story through authorized assessment and delivery.

Does SCOUTz connect to my PSA?

Every finding comes with ticket-ready text you can paste into ConnectWise, Autotask, HaloPSA, or any other PSA. A native HaloPSA connection is next on the roadmap.

Does SCOUTz grade a prospect?

Yes, per platform, and the grade never stands alone. The public domain score and the Microsoft 365 grade each show what was checked, what couldn't be read, and when. SCOUTz never blends platforms into one number, and an unknown never counts as clean.

Does SCOUTz replace Network Detective, ConnectSecure, or vPenTest?

No. Those products serve deeper technical testing and assessment jobs. SCOUTz is designed to begin earlier with bounded outside-in evidence and can preserve the questions and evidence needed for the next authorized tool.

Can I use SCOUTz alongside Cynomi or Apptega?

Yes. vCISO and compliance platforms can run an ongoing program after a client relationship begins. SCOUTz can supply dated evidence and explicit unknowns that help an MSP decide whether such a program is useful and later verify supported changes.

How is SCOUTz different from MSProspector?

MSProspector publicly focuses on buyer-intent signals, account research, contacts, and sales playbooks. SCOUTz focuses on source-labeled security evidence, customer-authorized cloud review, MSP-owned work, and supported verification. An MSP may use both.

Is BetterTracker 365 Scout the same as the SCOUTz Microsoft 365 review?

No. BetterTracker publicly emphasizes SaaS spend, license use, connected applications, and shadow IT visibility. The SCOUTz Microsoft 365 review centers on configuration evidence, explicit unknowns, consent boundaries, and a rescan that shows what changed.

Is SCOUTz related to Microsoft Scout?

No. SCOUTz is built by SCOUTz LLC and is not affiliated with Microsoft. Microsoft introduced Microsoft Scout in June 2026 as an AI agent that works across a user's Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint. SCOUTz does a different job: it reads Microsoft 365 configuration and metadata, read-only, so an MSP can see a prospect's environment before the first meeting. It never reads mail, files, chats, or meetings, and it never takes action inside the tenant.
