Security questionnaires often ask owners to recall technical controls they cannot personally verify. Consented tenant evidence can replace part of that guesswork, as long as the MSP records collection time, coverage, exceptions, and the questions that still require attestation.
What tenant evidence can replace
Use current configuration and metadata to verify questions about identities, privileged roles, authentication registration, application consent, licensing, and other controls actually covered by the authorized assessment. Record the collection time and any source that was unavailable.
What still needs a person
Recovery testing, after-hours response, vendor ownership, business dependencies, and policy operation often require service records or client/MSP attestation. Do not turn an unreadable or out-of-scope control into a pass.
Use an evidence register
For each questionnaire item, record the answer, evidence source, owner, observation date, exceptions, and next review. The result is more defensible than memory and more honest than a universal yes.
Put it to work
Take one current questionnaire and mark every answer Observed, Inferred, or Attested before it is signed.
Next step: Take one current questionnaire and mark every answer Observed, Inferred, or Attested before it is signed.
